It's been a while, but as the title of this post should tell you, today's release is a little larger than normal. Indeed it's not one, not two, but three different chapters (two of which constitute my previously mentioned birthday release).
I'd sort of flip-flopped in regards to what I wanted to do for the birthday release. But in the end opted for the following two series in part because they're thematically quite interesting to compare and contrast (both are horror, both feature strong willed female protagonists, both mention Hitler, both have been adapted to live action, one is a classic, one more modern etc.) and in part because a lot of the other stuff I'd been looking at would've been far too long to get out in any reasonable amount of time!
First up then is Chimamire Sukeban Chainsaw by Rei Mikamoto. This is about a trashy as a series as it gets. It's basically about a schoolgirl who goes around fighting her now zombified classmates. If you've ever seen something like Zombies vs. Strippers, or done any of Mikamoto's other series you should probably know what to expect.
It's not exactly high art, but then again it's not like every series needs to be and I've something of a liking for such unabashedly gorey horror.

Next up we have Eko Eko Azarak (the name being a part of a Wiccan chant) by Shinichi Koga. This is an older manga from the 70s and quite a successful one at that. It was part of Shounen Champion's Golden Age, being serialised alongside such other notable works as Black Jack and Dokaben and it lead to a whole range of TV/film adaptations (the most recent of which was in 2006).
The story itself follows Misa Kuroi (something of a sort of pun on black mass), a schoolgirl witch who transfers to a new school and encounters all manner of horrors there. It's not as outright B movie as Chainsaw, but there's certainly enough death and gore in it, and I'm a sucker for older style horror as well.

Lastly then we have chapter 10 of Survival. I only actually provided the translation for the chapter (being too busy with Chainsaw/Azarak to edit it) so it was entirely done by good friend/QC-turned-editor. You can thank him then for it releasing at all this week!
Looking ahead I hope to get more releases of Chainsaw/Azarak out at a reasonable pace, but should probably check what else I'm meant to be working on first. The next chapter of Survival is 50 pages or so, so don't expect a quick release for that one.
