Survival 2000 [One-Shot]

I promised something a bit different today and here we have it with the release of Survival 2000. This was originally a one-shot published in two parts (which is how I've kept things here) at the turn of the century in Weekly Shounen Sunday as part of a series by Shogakukan where a bunch of their old stars returned to their classic series. You also had other one-shots for stuff like Inuyasha and Blazing Transfer Student.

Unfortunately it was never collected in a proper volume which means that the raws for this came from 20 year old magazine scans making it pretty damn ugly. Such is life I guess.

Personally I'm not even sure it quite captures the original Survival spirit anyway, but I suppose it'd be hard to do that in a single a one-shot, even if it is 80 pages long.

Thanks to this go to my editor, Nady, and to amtt and elemhunter for helping out with the raws.

This release also means that the only Survival content not in English now is Survival NEO, but considering that would also involve tracking down a bunch of 10 year old magazines for something that ultimately doesn't even have a proper conclusion I'm not exactly inclined to bother.

Have something a bit different in the works which'll hopefully be out soon, very much one of those high effort, low reward things mind.

Breakdown Ch. 1, Kaiten-One Ch. 35 [End] & Kendo Shitouden Cestvs Ch. 39

A triple release today featuring the start of something, the end of something, and something which'll likely never end.

First up we've chapter one of a brand new series: Breakdown by Takao Saito. Essentially a more grown up version of his earlier hit Survival it was serialised back in the 90s in the now defunct Leed Comic.

It's a fair bit shorter than Survival with only 20 or so chapters but most of them are quite long and I'm having the series scanned by the chapter so I wouldn't expect regular releases. Still, it hopefully won't take too long to finish.

Following that we've the very regrettable end of Kaiten. This was by no means a surprise to me (the series never exactly seemed to light up the charts sale wise, nor did it even seem to generate much buzz at all) but it's disappointing nonetheless. Youkai had obviously been cut short too but it at least  had a fair bit of meat to it, Kaiten on the other hand ends without ever really having managed to establish much. And, while I did like the introduction of Shin and what not I wasn't a massive fan of Sako becoming this obsessive third wheel, nor Koko's complete disappearance as a character (though presumably Shibata would've done more with them had he the time).

Yet such is the way of things I guess. If nothing else Shibata still has Blue Striker, which I'll hopefully get more regular with, and his Kamen Rider series, which I'll hopefully be able to start soon. So if you like his style then there's certainly more stuff on the horizon. At some point in time I might even get to some of his older stuff, but we'll have to see.

As ever if you liked the series you can pick it up digitally from sites like eBookJapan, and physically from places like Amazon. Lastly thanks go to my editor, for helping out as always.

And to end things we've another chapter of Cestvs.

Kaiten-One Ch. 33-34 & Kendo Shitouden Cestvs Ch. 38

Somewhat mixed news to start with today as, while Kaiten is finally back, it's also only one chapter away from ending!

While unfortunate I must admit it doesn't come as a massive surprise to me (I think I even said last release that it might well be over soon), but I'll save my thoughts proper for the release of 35 in a day or so's time.

And then we've a rather food filled chapter of Cestvs.
