I'm not a big fan of starting things in media res but guess Wazarai wanted to change things up a bit. Despite there being five volumes remaining this actually marks the penultimate arc; it lasts until partway into volume 13 after which the remainder of the series covers Ruska again (bar like, a short epilogue).
