I'm always a fan of putting in more effort than I should, so here's the finale to not one, but two series.
First up, Cestvs. Normally I'd write up a big piece on just what draws me to the stuff I was finishing, but given this isn't by any means an actual ending (with part two still years off finishing) I figure it'd be pretty unfair to comment at this point.
Instead I'll offer my usual thanks to elemhunter with his help for the raws, and to my editor Nady for putting up with 100+ chapters worth of trouble. If you like the series you can buy most of it physically from places like Amazon (although some of the earlier volumes seem to be going out of print), or digitally though sites like eBookJapan. As for the sequel, well, I'll start it at some point...
Then we've Youkai. While it obviously has a continuation too (which I can now get back to) it's closer in nature to a reboot and I'm unsure of whether or not it'll even get anywhere.
Youkai then was a series which I actually really liked. I came to it from Shibata's prior series 81diver (which is also a great read) and took to it from the first volume. While the kids get super powers plot is about as overdone as can be Shibata's definitely a one of a kind artist (even if the effect of giant SFX bubbles is generally lost in English), and his weird blend of rather dead pan humour and over the top fight scenes was something I've really enjoyed (plus the human weapon stuff which was all great).
That it got cancelled is fairly obvious from the ending (although Air Master's ending was similarly brief IIRC). While a shame there's at least some hope for Kaiten, though who knows if that'll even last much longer given Shibata recently started two new series.
